원형 방의 프레스코화

요청하신 대로 원형 방을 꾸미고 있는 프레스코화를 자세히 조사해 보았습니다. 저는 먼저 솔라스 경으로부터 그림에 담긴 의도를 알아내려 했습니다. 호칭은 양해해 주십시오. 그분이 심문회 내에서 특정한 직위를 갖고 계시지 않다는 건 알지만, 그분의 경험담을 들으면 들을수록, 정중한 호칭을 붙여드리지 않으면 어색할 것 같은 기분이 들었습니다.

벽화에 대해 경은 오직 이 말만 해주셨습니다. "하늘보루는 그의 요새이고(심문관님을 말씀하시는 거겠죠), 이건 그의 행적입니다." 살펴보니 그분 말씀대로더군요. 벽화의 각 추가 부분들은 그 주제를 확연하게 나타내고 있습니다.

재료나 표현 기법에 관해 말씀드리자면, 엘프풍 프레스코 화법에, 안료와 회반죽이 사용됐으며, 크기가 웅장합니다. 이런 기술이 적용된 작품을 관찰할 기회는 그리 흔하지 않죠. 상기한 점을 고려하면, 심상을 드러내기에 앞서 오랜 시간 동안 연구해, 확신을 갖추고 전체 벽화를 완성하신 것 같군요. 제가 보기에 이 작품은 엘프의 세계관과 그들의 정교한 성정을 드러내는 듯합니다.

경께서는 오랜 시간을 연구에 매진하셨을 테니, 이런 훌륭한 실력을 갖추신 게 이상한 일은 아니죠. 어찌 됐건 굉장히 놀라운 작품입니다. 살아있는 인물 중에 이 정도 작품을 만들 수 있는 이는 데일스 엘프를 포함해도 얼마 없을 겁니다.

As per your request, I have made a thorough examination of the fresco adorning the rotunda. I first attempted to clarify its intent with Messere Solas. Forgive me, I know he is not titled within the structure of the Inquisition, but the more I learn of his experience, the more awkward I feel not using a formal honorific.

 

On the mural, all messere would say is, "Skyhold is (her/his) fortress (meaning of course the Inquisitor). These are (her/his) actions." He is, of course, correct; the subject of each addition is self-evident.

 

On the medium and method, it is elven fresco, pigment and plaster, and it is grand. I have rarely been privileged to observe such skill as it is applied. It is considered, with long periods of study before the image emerges, whole cloth and with certainty. It speaks of how I imagine elves view the world, and the measured nature of their step.

 

I should expect such competence from messere, given his probable years of study. But it is still an amazing work, demonstrating an art with few living practitioners, even among the Dalish.
